The post from the staff explicitly states:
Anyway, glad to see she’s decided to join the rest of the modern world and ditch those braids. We know her hairline is probably way past receding for wearing them thangs for over a decade.
The modern world? What the ….? Are these fools being serious? I can’t believe I even used to read this stupid poseur website. Brandy looked great when she wore braids; let’s not forget that braids are part of African culture and originated on the continent as a way of wearing our hair. Since when does that need “ditching”? It is almost laughable how uneducated they sound. I’m natural and love braids to death. Fighting against people of my race about hair is so embarrassing: do you think other people of different races do this?
What an embarrassing excuse for a website.

I love the support that comment is receiving
And if that’s not enough let’s focus on her rack. And focus ridiculous amount of energy bashing the rest of her appearance. Argh.
The pathetic thing is I have had similar sentiments directed at me. I also get a lot of “you look African/are you trying to look African?” bit. I’m not sure, as an African, what else I’m supposed to look like?
for them , i am almost positive they were commenting on the yaki . Enough with the false hair, why does hair always have to be long . It’s not like brandy was wearing interesting braid designs with her ” natural hair”/ to me just another way for her to relate to the white masses.
Bossip & similar sites who will remain names (Concrete Loop) are fun but sometimes ridiculous. The people that run them are obviously young & out of it.

I agree with Byrd Parker. As a Brandy fan, we have wondered for years what was under there–under those braids. They were obviously fake. I mean, we knew that wasn’t the real length of her hair. Not to mention that everyone could tell her real hair was suffering badly…the hairline receded as much as her career did every year. I have seen many Black women do the same thing, so it seemed ridiculous that a famous woman who had lots of money would continuously torture her head and scalp that way.
Not saying that braids, even the Yaki are all bad–they are a good way to grow hair when done right. When not pulling the hair from your edges into tight knots that pull out hair follicles so that it never grows back. But dude, show us your real hair! The real you!
As I got older and began to eschew Black hair that attempted to look European, it made me think Brandy was afraid/ashamed/hated her real hair. Maybe that was why she kept braids, to keep the ‘white girl swing’ while keeping it manageable. For the record, the braids that Brandy rocked throughout her career were not so Africanized…if Brandy was trying to be African, she should’ve shown us her naturally textured hair.
Just saying, maybe it’s a gender thing, but I think more Black women kinda understood that comment to be about Brandy breaking her hair off, not ditching her African-ness. Though personally, I hate the way her hair is so fakely straight now — through the refinery on her head from a carcinogenic perm — even more so.
Also, if we are hating on stupid Black gossip sites, Bossip is more of the more tame ones. Take a look at MediaTakeOut.com. It makes me cringe whenever I see a link. Even the titles of the stories are embarassing. And the content is nonexistent. On second thought…maybe you shouldn’t take a look.
I’m not discussing Bossip’s other content. I couldn’t care less whether it was tame. The comment was distasteful and ignorant.
I don’t see the big deal. I agree with Byrd and Tanisha. I interpreted that as a comment about the damage she’s done to her hair. Which, let’s be real, her hair line is receeding. Tight micro-braids are not good for the hair and scalp. Especially over a period of YEARS.
Surely there are more important things to discuss than hair within African American culture. Is there a problem in being or looking African … I sincerely hope not.
Consider this: most Black Americans are very different than African people actually from Africa. There also are mnay mixed people who share African ancestry along with other backgrounds that should be acknowledged and respected as well.
Next: How is wearing fake braids better than wearing fake yaki? (In any case is it not an individual’s choice?)
And: When you were young and carefree, weren’t you a little out of it? It’s a part of the natural growth process of any human. We live and we learn. ☼
Bashing anyone because they do not agree with you or do things the way you think they should be done is a contradiction. You are in effect doing the same thing you condemn the person who wrote that comment about Brandy for…that person thought it was time for Brandy to ditch the braids, you say the braids are fine because they are natural….(they are not)…and even if they were everyone has an opinion and everyone is different and does not have to agree with you and that does not mean something is flawed with them if they don’t.
Respect that.
Anyone who claims to be “All natural” in today’s society is delusional for real.
With all the products and accessories to better every aspect of yourself…you’re telling me you partake in none of that?
You must live in the wilderness.
I have comment for the ones who are speaking on real/fake first of all Brandi is grown i thinks she realizes what she is doing to her hair further more its her head and she can do as she pleases as many of us do. Its not about wearing weave to look white (such a dumb comment) its about what people like. i dont really think people are ashame of they type of hair they have but when some dont have as much hair as others they may do different things to their hair i just dont see the big deal about someone actually taking the time to worry about how someone wears there hair its there business just because you say you dont like it BELIEVE ME BRANDY DOES NOT CARE WHAT YOU,YOU OR YOU THINKS ABOUT HER HAIR!
Bossip is an embarrassing. I read it once and never again. Blacks bringing Blacks down.
