Jürgen Gansel, a party leader and an elected lawmaker in the German state of Saxony, blamed Obama’s victory on “the American alliance of Jews and Negroes.”
In Poland Artur Górski, a legislator from the Law and Justice party, called Obama “the black messiah of the new Left” and a “crypto-communist” who would undoubtedly prove a “disaster.” He added: “Al-Qaeda is rubbing their hands with glee that the new president wants peace, not war.”
“This marks the end of the white man’s civilization,” he said. “America will soon pay a high price for this quirk of democracy.”

As a Black person born in Europe (UK), a percentage of the ‘old country’ are astonished at the Obama victory. As a British MP said, it will be many, many years before we see a Obama type victory in this country’. And I think there is some truth in that as the Britis, French etc still hold incredibly racist views. So I’m not surprised that Euro leaders are not happy that Obama is the new leader. What is important that Obama has lots of continued support in America, and that the 61% White who voted for him, do not waver or shift, because it will be they who will ask Europe to stay back.
Just like in the United States, there are whites in Europe who are extremely color-aroused to hate and fear Obama simply because of the color of his skin. Their hatred and nasty comments are nothing personal toward Obama, but would be directed toward any powerful and/or noteable Black person, in Europe or elsewhere.
I think the outpouring of support that Obama received in Germany, with 200,000 people turning out to see him, is much more representative of how Europeans feel about Obama. And I also note that the “leaders” mentioned above are leaders of splinter groups and factions rather than elected representatives of any entire country.
OOPS! But there was this from Italy’s Prime Minister Burlusconi:
“One of the milder gaffes came from Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi. On Thursday, during a visit to Moscow, he praised Obama for being “young, handsome and even suntanned.”
Berlusconi’s remark caused a stir in Italy, as critics chided him for sounding like a fool. But the prime minister was unrepentant. “What’s the problem? It was a compliment,” he told journalists the next day. Anyone who did not get the joke, he added, was an “imbecile.” “
OK. So, even among the heads of state there is at least one &¨%((#$. People who think like that should go . . . get psychiatric treatment for extreme color aroused disorder.
This is not surprising. Racism is everywhere, and Europe is no exception. Indeed, in many nations of Europe, anti-Black racism is woven into a broader xenophobia which has grown along with the influx of people of African descent both from neighboring countries in North Africa and from former colonies in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The fact that the U.S. has a Black president will add an interesting dimension to international relations, though Condi and Colin Powell have in a sense paved the way by putting an African American face on high level U.S./Europe political relations.
Wow, as much as I don’t like to read that there is this kind of blatent racism posted in papers across Europe, it would be foolish for me or anyone to be suprized. In this country…the country that elected him, there have been several incidents in several schools that I am aware of where people who are not happy about President Elcet Obama winning have done things to “retaliate” at minorities that surround them.
As I stated in a blog on my page, Racism is still a very big and very real issue in this country…why would we be so arrogant as to believe that it is not taking place in other countries. Yes, there are many around the globe who celebrated this historical election and there are at least just as many who hated to see it happen.
It is my sincere prayer and desire that President Elect Obama’s term(s) in office be monumentous as to the effect on racism not just here in America, but internationally. He has a job that is bigger than any president in the history of the United States. He has to prove that he can do the job not just on the domestic front, but the international one as well. He has to prove that he is more than capable of increasing the efficacy in which this country deal with her internal problems while balancing out our presence on a global level. He will have to perform the duties of a President at a more successful rate and in a more efficient manner than ANY of his white counterparts who preceded him in service to the great country as Commander in Chief….why…..isn’t it obvious?
Unfortunatly….because he is BLACK.
With that having been said, he is going to be judged harder so me he must be a better than average President, a better than average Man, a better than average husband……….a better than average one of us. For many globally, he is the sole representation of the african american community worldwide..not just in the U.S. For years to come, we as a people will be looked at through the eyes of the accomplishments or failures (moreso the failures) of President Elect Obama. So…this time of preparing to enter a new chapter in the history of this country is not his alone…it belongs to every single african american (black person) in the whole world.
So my brothers and sisters…prepare to be scrutinized and “white glove” examinations to come! This journey is NOT his alone to take….but ALL of us, willingly or not, are on this journey with him!
Having said that, I certainly send my prayers for strength and overwhelming success, and guidance and protection from our God in heaven, to The Obama family and cabinet during these next four years…we are going to need it!
BUT…YES….WE….CAN, do it!!!!!
***GREAT POST***
so, why do europeans have to be totally accepting of african influences and africans? i totally support president-elect Obama, because i think that he will be a great leader. also, this is AMERICA, which is a nation that is a mix of people, albeit with a very strong Anglo-Saxon base. so why does europe have to always be very multicultural? shouldn’t they be able to preserve their culture and demographics as they always have been? and why does multiculturalism seem to only apply to europeans their descendants? why can’t i go to Saudi Arabia and open up my bible and start praying? can i cry “you bigots! accept my culture, or i will complain on the internet!”?
Indeed, why should Europeans accept African influences and Africans. Why not allow the European leaders to spew their racism without uttering a single word. Shouldn’t a European leader be free to lead the rest of his or her country into the age old practice of spreading racial hate? Then again, why did America get involve in the age old practice of European countries attacking other European countries back in World War II? Shouldn’t they be able to preserve some of their old ways? Shouldn’t the people of Germany been allowed to continue their discrimination against Jewish people? Or are these type of questions relegated only to people of African descent?
Peace
To say that they should be allowed to practice these limiting views in their culture is not a good argument. It is an excuse. There is no excuse for discrimination. We are all human in the end, and we all deserve the same rights and opportunities.
europe and america are very different. as a european, i can say i dislike president obama because everybody loves him for being black, not for being worthy. in other words, i dont really care he is black or with but it bothers me to see he is advertised as great simply because he is, like berlusconi said, “suntanned”.
