Hi, reply to Cheryl, I meant the magazine is delayed over here in the Uk. You won't get your copies in the states just yet but you can find out where it is distributed by contacting the publishers/distributors and then make sure that newstand orders more copies then usual and pre order if you can.

Plus remember even if newstands don't normally stock it, you can ask them to order them from their suppliers for you as a one off, but they need to do it soon as stocks are limited for circulation abroad and demands are unlikely to be met.

please, please those in the states, make sure your newsagents know about the unprecendented demand there will be for this copy, otherwise you are all going to be dissapointed. Make sure they order the maximum. Right now very few shops were sent it and then only 2 or 3 copies. Other big retailers are still waiting for it and have made attempts to order more after being inundated with requests for it.Even the distributors didn't really realise how popular it would be and are very inlikely to meet demands. We are still waiting for our copies which may or may not reach the shops until the end of July . Why or why was there such bad planning on getting this copy out to us when all the other international vogue copies are on the shelves?

It is fabulous that the July issue is the all black issue, black models need just as much coverage as everyone else! Although Vogue is not the major arbiter of equality, but at least it is a step in the right direction. If you guys love women of color in fashion then you guys would love Bianca! I’m currently working with Toyota and I’m really hyped when it comes to spreading the word about the new interactive If Looks Could Kill webisodes. They follow an aspiring fashion assistant who is a prime example of a woman whos’ got it going on. I’m talking the dream job, man who’s got all the ladies drooling, and the spice to keep it all together. Think James Bond meets Sanaa Lathan in Something New.
You’ll have to see what I’m talking about. I can’t wait to read your thoughts on the first episode so we can chit-chat abut what’s really going on. Don’t be surprised when you find yourself being reeled in like bait. That will make two of us!
I hope I didn’t overstep my bounds by directly contacting you. After viewing your blog and seeing how hip to the game you are when it comes to what’s hot and current, I figured this would be something that would catch your interest.
Looking forward to the girl talk!
Best,

Its not yesterday's willie lynch that plagues us its todays psychological warfare !

Today, in carrying out many of its social-engineering agendas, the United States Government now conducts planned campaigns of extensive strategic psychological operations through the national media to influence and direct the perception and climate of the nation towards its governmental objectives. Its unrelenting objective of maintaining white dominance and control resulted in the U.S. Government using these same proven methods of strategic psychological manipulationof its Black population.
When most people hear the term of psychological manipulation they usually think in terms of the classic "conspiracy theory" that refers to overt mind control such as mind altering drugs with carefully hypnotic programming. However, the real and true dangers are the well proven methods of psychological manipulation that works by affecting the unconscious mind through deception, using the psychology of deceit to adversely affect the recipient group in terms of their behavior. It is neither magical nor mystical, but a process that involves a set of basic social psychological principles.
The U.S. Government now secretly deliberately disseminates false deplorably racially devaluing statistics and propaganda of its Black population that are designed to corrupt African Americans sense of unity, cohesion, and reason and to foster a consensual national environment of which its Black population is more easily divided, exploited and ultimately suppressed.
Here is a simplified example of how this is being implemented against African Americans.
Let us, for example, imagine that a crew of people was aboard their own massive ship and that this ship was being shadowed by another neighboring ship that was constantly broadcasting derogatory messages to the first group. Such messages as that their ship was lesser, smaller, not seaworthy, perhaps slowly sinking or that their crew was incompetent and was planning a mutiny. With time, the group receiving the negative messages, being unable to refute or to confirm these derogatory messages and deficiencies will grow weary and paranoid of the negative messages and will eventually comes to accept these negative assessments of themselves. The perception created by the taunting now unconsciously influences how the taunted group perceives themselves, subsequently causing them to become distrustful of themselves, doubting themselves, hating themselves and, eventually, fighting among themselves. The taunted group may even become so besieged by deep feelings of inadequacy that they may even jump into the sea and attempt to swim towards the taunting ship now believing it to be superior to their own boat even if their own ship was in fact better.
Within a real life setting this mortifying psychological manipulation is precisely what is being done to African Americans through an immense campaign of falsederogatory misinformation and false negative media reports and statistics that are created by U.S. governmental agencies and then leaked to its collaborators in the newsmedia, which either knowingly or unknowingly carry the stories as their own. These false information about African Americans is then disseminated unrelentingly everywhere; it is deliberately perpetuated through news releases in magazine articles, radio, television, press releases, documentaries, and false census reports perpetuating and framing the myth of Whites’ racial, moral, and ethical superiority over its Black population. However, the weapon is not in how the message is carried, but is instead within the messages that it carries and how these messages affect the targeted recipients.
The constant relentless bombardment with deplorably negative images of themselves that of which African Americans are so inundated with throughout the media is a very carefully and deliberately designed psychological conditioning program. It is designed to subject African Americans to seeing, through a controlled national media, only the worst in themselves-- while insinuating that they admire, respect, and trust only Whites. This unrelenting daily assault on the Black psyche is designed to corrupt African Americans’ sense of racial unity and cohesion, mold the character of self-hatred, and engender self-doubt, self-loathing, and distrust among their group. To the detriment of Blacks, this system of applied psychological conditioning has been an extremely effective. It has successfully conditioned many African Americans to accept the dominance of Whites and white institutions over their lives by misleading them to believe that they are, themselves, their own worst enemies, therefore engendering an aberration of internalized self contempt that pulverizes Black unity and halts Black upward mobility.
Moreover, all African Americans have experienced the burden of this psychological warfare, some more severely than others have. It is experienced every time we [Blacks] read a newspaper, watch the evening news, enter a classroom, and read its racially biased textbooks. And while many Black Americans have successfully navigated through the psychology mortifying mine field and have gone on to lead successful, productive lives, but for far too many African Americans this immense devaluation can seem inescapable and tragically, over time, many begin to accept subconsciously and painfully the negative portrayals of themselves. Many also become discouraged by the acceptance that their society is also preconditioned to see the worst in them and that, therefore, if they were ever to gain acceptance, if it is to be won at all, that success would be hard won and likely to manifest negative internalizedpsychological pain and distress within many African Americans that can take many forms. In fact, this governmental mortifying psychological warfare against African Americans may be the most aggravating, if not core, factor of the national phenomenon of self hatred; loss of educational aspirations; loss of unity, cohesion and racial pride; and fragile psyches of many African Americans today. Moreover, this type of psychological manipulation program has been proven very effective in rapidly destroying a group’s ethical and moral values and cultural norms with regard to violence, brutality, and even murder. All people are products of cultural conditions and their worldviews operate outside of their level of consciousness. Therefore, no group can be preconditioned to see only the worst in themselves and not exhibit some degree of negative psychological impact.
This psychological conditioning program also significantly influences society as a whole. Its ultimate goal is to foster a consensual national setting of where in which Blacks are more easily divided, exploited and ultimately suppressed. The constant, relentless bombardment with deplorably negative imagery of Black Americans , which the general population is inundated with throughout the media is not only fraudulently inaccurate but is being actually done to engender a shift of victimization that changes the root problem of racism in America to be due to Black’s behavior rather than White’s proclivity for racism. Therefore insinuates that America would be a better society as a whole if African Americans were gone, thus engendering increasingly prejudiced distorted perceptions and acrimonious beliefs about African Americans that are designedto discourage miscegenation, makes the nation and the entire world insensitive to theirplight, tranquilizes efforts on their behalf, lessens pressure for social change on their behalf and makes any serious criticism of White racism almost impossible today. It also creates a false justification for the legal system’s mistreatment of African Americans. Wherein they are disproportionately incarcerated, given stiffer sentences, and are more likely than other racial groups to be treated brutally, beaten, and fired upon by police officers while they are unarmed. These injustices now goes ignored because the perception has become that it’s all now justified.
When contempt of Blacks is made to appear to be justifiable, it is the most fiercestand effective type of racism because its witnesses, bystanders, and even world audiences will sit by idly allowing African Americans to be brutally mistreated disproportionately incarcerated under the belief that it is justified.] It also affects attitudes that when enacted through governmental policies, laws, and other legislation actions, serve to ensure that African Americans will not advance. Its effects are manifested in ideas, education, governmental policies, economic stratification, social segregation, housing markets, hiring and promotion practices, psychological issues, and minority access to a variety of social services and opportunity. This campaign successfully stripped African Americans of the national and international support that was acquired during the 1960's civil rights struggles. This anti Black governmental campaign of psychological warfare also creates a false justification for the legal system’s mistreatmentof African Americans wherein they are disproportionately incarcerated, given stiffer sentences, and are more likely than other racial groups to be treated brutally, beaten, and fired upon by police officers while they are unarmed. Moreover, some studies have shown that this shift of victimization now reflects increasingly acrimonious beliefs and prejudiced perceptions about and against African Americans that are arguably stronger today than they were after emancipation.
This concept of the U.S government using psychology as a weapon to influence and control its Black population is not at all ridiculous. This system of applied psychological conditioning is indeed directly derived from those mind-conditioning programs and systems developed by the federal government. These systems were already perfected by members of the U.S. military and were then turned over to the intelligence sectors for other applications. The intelligence sector, in turn, deliberately and successfully undertook to have this same kind of highly negative, destructive and effective conditioning applied to targeted group and society as a whole.
Furthermore, more than a century ago, Charles Darwin predicted in his book, "The Origin of Species" (1859) "the evolutionary theory would one day provide a new foundation for the science of psychology." The truth in his words where realized when the science of psychology, through the methods of propaganda techniques was codified and applied in a scientific manner by journalist Walter Lippman and psychologist Edward Bernays (nephew of Sigmund Freud) early in the 20th century. During World War I, Lippman and Bernays were hired by then United States President, Woodrow Wilson, to participate in the Creel Commission, the mission of which was to sway popular opinion in favor of entering the war, on the side of Britain . The war propaganda campaign of Lippman and Bernays produced such an intense anti-German hysteria as to permanently impress America ’s governmental elites with the potential of large-scale propaganda to control public opinion. Edward Bernays coined the terms "group mind" and "engineering consent", important concepts in practical propaganda work.. Bernays said in his 1928 book Propaganda, that; "The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country. The current public relations industry is a direct outgrowth of Lippman's and Bernays' work and is still used extensively by the United States government.
Over time the techniques increased in their sophistication as modern advances in the understanding of the genetics of social behavior ushered in Sociobiology; a controversial new science of the biological study of social behavior of humans. Since the 1950's, U.S. experimental psychologists and Cognitive scientists have developed ideas about the unconscious mental process that proposes that most of our mental processes happen outside of our awareness suggesting that the ability to control the behavior of people around us subconsciously is now a distinct possibility. Moreover, over the past five decades, human sociobiology has transformed into an evolutionary psychology that has gained science the means and ability to control and, therefore, predict the actions and feelings of individuals or groups merely by the messages conveyed against them. According to this controversial use of psychology, the human mind is the most extraordinary part of the human body, and there seems to be little doubt, wrote biologist David Barash, "that the unconscious is real and that in certain obscure ways the forces of culture are all-powerful in shaping human behavior. Advances in these studies resulted in governments using psychology as a weapon for maintaining White dominance.
This effectiveness of the usage of the psychology of deceit to profoundly influenced and control individuals and mass groups was made obvious as a result of one of the most infamous mistakes in history. It happened on Oct. 30, 1938, when millions of Americans tuned in to a popular radio program that featured a plays directed by, and starring, Orson Welles. The performance that evening was an adaptation of the science fiction novel The War of the Worlds, about a Martian invasion of the earth. But in adapting the book for a radio play, Welles made an important change: under his direction the play was written and performed so it would sound like a news broadcast about an invasion from Mars, a technique that, presumably, was intended to heighten the dramatic effect. News of the panic was conveyed as a via genuine news report. As the audience listened to this simulation of news broadcast, created with voice acting and sound effects, a portion of the audience concluded that it was hearing an actual news account of an invasion from Mars. This quickly generated immense scare. People packed the roads, hid in cellars, loaded guns, fought among themselves, even wrapped their heads in wet towels as protection from Martian poison gas, in an attempt to defend themselves against aliens, oblivious to the fact that they were acting out the role of the panic-stricken public that actually belonged in a radio play. These people listening to the false broadcast were taken in by the totally false accounts and became confused, disarray and distrusting of their neighbors even resulting in immense violence. This example proves and demonstrated more potently than any argument, that beyond a question of a doubt, the enormous effectiveness of the media at affecting masses of people.
Furthermore, according to researcher Mack White, Psychologist Dr. Hadley Cantril conducted a study of the effects of the broadcast and published his findings in a book, The Invasion from Mars: A Study in the Psychology of Panic, (1939). This study explored the power of broadcast media, particularly as it relates to the suggestibility of human beings under the influence of fear. Dr. Cantril was affiliated with Princeton University 's Radio Research Project, which was funded in 1937 by the Rockefeller Foundation. Also affiliated with the Project was Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) member and Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS) executive Frank Stanton, whose network had broadcast the program. Stanton would later go on to head the news division of CBS, and in time would become president of the network, as well as chairman of the board of the RAND Corporation, the influential think tank which has done groundbreaking research on, among other things, mass brainwashing. Two years later, with Rockefeller Foundation money, Cantril established the Office of Public Opinion Research (OPOR), also at Princeton . Among the studies conducted by the OPOR was an analysis of the effectiveness of "psycho-political operations" (propaganda, in plain English) of the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), the forerunner of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). Then, during World War II, Cantril and Rockefeller money assisted CFR member and CBS reporter Edward R. Murrow in setting up the Princeton Listening Center , the purpose of which was to study Nazi radio propaganda with the object of applying Nazi techniques to OSS propaganda. Out of this project came a new government agency, the Foreign Broadcast Intelligence Service (FBIS). The FBIS eventually became the United States Information Agency (USIA), which is the propaganda arm of the National Security Council. Thus, by the end of the 1940s, the basic research had been done and the propaganda apparatus of the national security state had been fully established.
Given the preceded noted history and facts, clearly then connecting these dots should be made rather easy. Furthermore, the objective of the United States government has always been to maintain its White dominance over its Black population, and clearly, psychological warfare meets this need. It was the logical choice—because it covertlyprovides the U.S. Government the ability to both influence the national climate and engender personal psychological feelings among its Black population that meet the U.S government objectives of maintaining its white dominance. Furthermore, history overwhelmingly demonstrates that the White race’s innate proclivity for racism, control, and dominance is much too deeply ingrained for them to just merely give up their practices of implementing suppressive methods over its African American population. The records of history show that the reincarnation of suppressive methods into forms more acceptable to the changing times is a common practice of the United States government as seen after the abolishment of slavery wherein its methods of using racist, oppressive treatment of its Black population was reincarnated into Jim Crow laws. And let us not forget the many sorts of devious strategies and methods used to prevent Blacks from becoming registered voters. The historic and demonstrative evidence overwhelmingly reflects the reality that the U.S. government does manifest a proclivity for reinventing devious methods to suppress its Black population. This proclivity has led to the U.S. Government now using its proven method of psychological operations to control the advancement and growth of its Black population. It was the next logical choice for it provides the Government the benefit of the appearance of conducting humanitarian efforts to help its Black community while covertly seeking only to maintain its White dominance.

Its not yesterday’s willie lynch that plagues us its todays psychological warfare !

When most people hear the term of psychological manipulation they usually think in terms of the classic “conspiracy theory” that refers to overt mind control such as mind altering drugs with carefully hypnotic programming.
It is designed to subject African Americans to seeing, through a controlled national media, only the worst in themselves– while insinuating that they admire, respect, and trust only Whites.
This campaign successfully stripped African Americans of the national and international support that was acquired during the 1960’s civil rights struggles.
Furthermore, more than a century ago, Charles Darwin predicted in his book, “The Origin of Species” (1859) “the evolutionary theory would one day provide a new foundation for the science of psychology.” The truth in his words where realized when the science of psychology, through the methods of propaganda techniques was codified and applied in a scientific manner by journalist Walter Lippman and psychologist Edward Bernays (nephew of Sigmund Freud) early in the 20th century. Edward Bernays coined the terms “group mind” and “engineering consent”, important concepts in practical propaganda work.. Bernays said in his 1928 book Propaganda, that; “The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country. The current public relations industry is a direct outgrowth of Lippman’s and Bernays’ work and is still used extensively by the United States government.
Over time the techniques increased in their sophistication as modern advances in the understanding of the genetics of social behavior ushered in Sociobiology; a controversial new science of the biological study of social behavior of humans. Since the 1950’s, U.S. experimental psychologists and Cognitive scientists have developed ideas about the unconscious mental process that proposes that most of our mental processes happen outside of our awareness suggesting that the ability to control the behavior of people around us subconsciously is now a distinct possibility. Moreover, over the past five decades, human sociobiology has transformed into an evolutionary psychology that has gained science the means and ability to control and, therefore, predict the actions and feelings of individuals or groups merely by the messages conveyed against them. According to this controversial use of psychology, the human mind is the most extraordinary part of the human body, and there seems to be little doubt, wrote biologist David Barash, “that the unconscious is real and that in certain obscure ways the forces of culture are all-powerful in shaping human behavior.
Dr. Cantril was affiliated with Princeton University ’s Radio Research Project, which was funded in 1937 by the Rockefeller Foundation. Among the studies conducted by the OPOR was an analysis of the effectiveness of “psycho-political operations” (propaganda, in plain English) of the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), the forerunner of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).

I was actually waiting for you Brother Peacemaker to chime in on this. I was so offended on father's day. I was particularly offended with the headlines like "Obama Tells Black Fathers To Act Like Men", "Obama Tells Black Men to Be Fathers", Blacks Should Heed Obama's Advice". That was wrong.

I have my father and my parents have been married for 24 years. I celebrated father's day with my father, uncles, grandfathers, cousins, friends who are fathers and family friends. We had a brunch. I grew up only seeing black men taking care of their responsibility. Often times when men drop the ball, it has more to do with the fact that they and the mother of the child or wife have a falling out. To often, people let their strained relationships get in the way of being there for their children. However, this happens amongst all races.

Here is a funny one, as I said growing up, I only saw black men who were taking care of their responsibilities as fathers. Now amongst my white friends, they all had broken families due to divorce and other matters. Many of them lived with their stepfathers, many had strained relationships with their fathers and many of their fathers dropped the ball. The breakdown of the family is an American issue. The divorce rate amongst whites is at over 50%. If we are going to judge a man and call him a deadbeat because he is not in the home, then we should extend that over to the white family. They have nearly 4 times as many if not more single mother households (numerically). We have a disproportionate amount. However numerically, they have more.

You said this,

"In instances when the black man and black woman aren’t able to work out their differences and live together, the majority of the fathers that I know do what they can to financially support their children. The idea that black men are irresponsible and are not supporting their children is a negative, racial stereotype that uses a minority of examples to prove the whole."

That is exactly my point. What is so sad about Obama is that he decided not to do his research before he decided to walk into a black church and ridicule black people. There was a study done that shows that black men who are not physically in the home were present in the child's life. They were more likely to be present than men of any other race.

My cousin's ex-fiancé is technically looked at as a single mother household. However my cousin is in his son's life. He works two jobs so that he can pay for him to go to private school, he has him every single weekend and he talks to him each and every day. There bond could be no stronger though he is not in the home. So for Obama to look at statistics and reduce a group of people to a statistic is wrong. To assume that a man who is not in the home is a derelict is wrong. To talk about Popeye’s chicken for breakfast, how black people celebrate not being in jail and mocking black parents who cheer at their child's 8th grade graduation is wrong. He made a mockery out of the black community and people are cheering him on. Obama painted some pretty picture of the black community with his rhetoric didn't he. He painted such a pretty picture that a white political cartoonist was inspired to draw this:

<a href="http://www.prometheus6.org/node/21331" rel="nofollow">Obama's Father's Day Speech Interpreted by Most Americans</a>

Asabanga said this,

"If he was such a “change-agent” or wanted to engage in a new kind of politics, why not give a speech praising and encouraging the many, many Black fathers, like you and I, who are being responsible, positive fathers and role models to our children and community. As the “Black Messiah” and future President of the U.S.A, a speech like that could have more of a positive and influential effect to encourage those Black men who are not living up to their responsibilities to do better."

Thank you!

I heard about this issue. Do you know if you can buy a hard copy here in the states?

I think it's horrible that they don't think it will sell well (likely) because all the images will be of brown people. Even the ones you have in the images here are absolutely beautiful.

"Could it be a contributing factor that black people are denied jobs and black families can only get government sponsored financial and medical help if the black man is not in the picture?"

This is my favorite quote (in context, of course) in this article (even though the whole post was good).

While many are sucking on the baby bottle of "history" in the making, black folks continue to go down the tubes. We aren't organized, don't have a value system other than the one massa fucked into us, don't have any visionaries who express a new world different from the horror show that we have now, et-fucing-cetera.

No, we're supposed to be doing cartwheels because we could have a black face in the "White House" who isn't carrying a service tray. Who gives a fuck?! Actually the problem is that Obama IS carrying a service tray, carrying the water for white capital. He doesn't come out and say it and, sadly, most of us can't read between the lines to save our lives.

If he refuses to speak to us except to criticize us, we are nothing but the mistress that he promises to leave his wife for. How does that scenario usually turn out?! He has Israel's back hard and strong; he speaks his love for that evil state openly, unreservedly, proudly. But his embrace of us: illicit, muted.

We all SHOULD know that the presidential dance changes nothing. If we aren't talking about destroying this monstrous system one fucking brick at a time - we're ALL full of shit.

Brother P…. I feel you on this post. I shook my head when I heard about Uncle Barack O-TOM-A’s speech. I thought to myself, he will find the time to attend a church to re-enforce and give legitimacy to the notion that Black men are irresponsible fathers and worthless men, however he could not find the time to attend the State of the Black Union to address issues and offer his solutions to concerns of the African-American community.

Just like John McCain, Uncle O-TOM-A is showing that he will say and do anything to get elected… and the surest way to get “white” people to vote for you is to evoke the spectre of the “black boogey man”. If he was such a “change-agent” or wanted to engage in a new kind of politics, why not give a speech praising and encouraging the many many Black fathers, like you and I, who are being responsible, positive fathers and role models to our children and community. As the “Black Messiah” and future President of the U.S.A, a speech like that could have more of a positive and influential effect to encourage those Black men who are not living up to their responsibilities to do better.

Have you considered voting for Cynthia Mckinney or Ralph Nader?

A choice has to be made: Obama with all his imperfections, or McCain with all his imperfections. And anyway, a presidency is only as great as the people working on its behalf. I don't believe the history is already written in stone as to what an Obama's presidency would be like. And, no one knows the future. We can only speculate.

But I believe that if we put something into his presidency, we will reap what we sow.

Here again: My opinion versus Your opinion. Maybe an Obama presidency would be great... maybe not. I would rather error on the side of history.

I get your point, I do. But . . .

In the US South, Christianity was taught to slaves because of the pressure placed on white Southerners by white Northerners.

And, yes, the Christianity that was taught only validated slavery, but you have to get credit to African ingenuity by the slaves' focus on Moses and not Paul. For many slaves and freedpeople, Moses surpassed even Jesus. In the Invisible Institution, most slave preachers affirmed the humanity of the slaves and the depravity of slavery.

Then, of course, that beautiful question a slave who's name has been lost asked either his master or the white missionary: "Is there slavery in heaven?"

That aside, I understand your point. And for what it's worth, after reading ALL THINGS FALL APART in high school, I continue to refer to my sense of inner peace and stillness as my "chi," which I pronounce chee. As in, "Don't talk to me about the election right now. You're messing with me -chi-."

Your mom appears to be a vibrant and headstrong individual! And although you both have differences, there can still be attempts to embrace each other's differences- they are what make you, "you." Mostly everyone that follows some type of faith or spirituality feels that he or she has the right philosophy- they are right and the next person is wrong. What happens if we find out at the end of it all, that we "all" had a little piece to add to the puzzle that would form what is really true and right? Sometimes I feel this way, and I do my best not to judge another for their beliefs and decisions. I am a Christian, and I believe that God sent His son, Jesus Christ, to die for our sins, so that we may have another chance at eternal life because He loved us so. Now, although I believe this with all my heart, I would never make another person feel that there religion is beneath mine. I can tell that despite it all, there is love between you and your mother, and that's what matters most. Thank you for sharing.

You said, "But what was truly a stroke of African assimilation genius was the separation of the African from his or her spirituality."

Agreed. The latest genius is the re-definition of the word racist. The black person who complains or criticizes racism is now considered a racist.

I agree. They should focus on making movies about black people in that time instead of complaining about not being included.

I'm going to rent these movies this weekend.

Wow. Slavery took alot from black people. Not only family, but pride in self. You see Africans now, they will tell you that they are not black, they're African and the sad part is some of them look down on black people. We're so disconnected from our roots that we're not growing.

Excellent post! I believe that black movie makers, producers, directors, writers, actors, financiers, distributors, and all their supporting casts can take charge to do the types of movies that detail the black experience from a black perspective. I constantly hear of black movie makers waiting for some non-black entity to approve their projects. Black millionaires and billionaires are still waiting for some white person to approve of their projects. There is a ton of black money out there that can be used to fund these projects. Black people can tell our own stories and put our own dreams to film. That way, we don't have to make sure black characters conform to what white people think is the normal behavior and the normal appearance for black people. Thanks for the new perspective.

Well Said A!

I worked in films for a minute...not as an actor, but as a producer of independent films and production. Yes I cut my teeth on editing, make-up, continuity--you know making sure the scene looks the same take after take!

I think we have to tell our own stories---which are rich and diverse and span the gamut of the Black experience. And I do think we have to call out film makers who tell our stories or deliberately leave us out of stories that we clearly had a historical role in. Becasue at the end of the day if Clint Eastwood tells a revisionist story of historical importance and does not attempt to add some Black folks in a war movie, then that peice of work becomes the only way some get a sense of history. When we know we were in the struggle then yeah, he has to be called out!

Thanks for posting this. It is important on so many levels.

Thankyou brotherpeacmaker for the post and have a happy fathers day everyone. Epluribus Unum!!! I agree Assimilation can be a wonderful thing if thing if the purpose is love and an end to White power racial hatred. That is why I celebrated Loving day. I had a great Loving day June 12 because I celebrated my 17 year marriage to my Caucasian wife and our two children. You pointed out that White racist don't want to see their families intergrated with Black Women. I feel the pain of the Black woman who you mentioned in your post. I also celebrate everytime I see an interracial relationship and children because I know that the KKK and other racist hate this kind of relationship. Thankyou also for pointing out the genocidal nature of abortion. The KKK loves abortion clinics inside Indian reservations and Black neighborhoods.

Black culture in America needs to be celebrated more. Most African Americans are Christians and they would benifit from embracing and celebrating their faith everyday. The KKK and all racism is anti- Christian. Christianity is the opposite it is an Assimilating religion. Epluribus Unum means "from many to one" Tomorrow I am going to Church which is the center of Black culture in America. The Black Christian church is working hard to authenticly assimilate the world into the knoledge of Christianity. I attend a church with a black pastor of a predominatly White evangelical congregation. The worship leaders are mainly Black folks but the croud is a rainbow. The Black church will continue to diminish racism through the power of love, and celebration of Black Christianity. Epluribus Unum Happy Fathers day!!!!!!

You pointed out that White racist don’t want to see their families intergrated with Black Women.

If Obama wins it will be the greatest moment in modern Black history. It wil be a day when White racist are looking for means to survive. They live in fear of Obamma now. White racist think that right now is the worst time in America to be White so Obama's run for the presidency is a large issue in the defeat of White racism.

What I love about the 17 recommendations is that they are steps. Many Black bloggers complain about our lack of progress on the web without listing recomendations.

It is bold and a very positive step to list a path towards change. I agree with most of the list. My people get out and vote. Change is a choice.

A year or so after scratching it from my favorites file, I recently stopped in on the Booker Rising site to check out the responses to Obama's clinching the Democratic nomination.
After reading the disparaging comments of these black conservativeswho "...sit back and berate other blacks for not being strong enough or fortunate enough or smart enough or bootlicking enough or tom enough", I realised I would have been less disgusted and sickened if I had just gone straight to the Little Green Footballs or American Renaissance websites instead.

asabagna,
I understand what you are saying and I'm well aware of the multi-party systems in other countries. My point was that running for President isn't the most effective way they should go about it. Getting 10% of the vote in a Presidential election isn't going to get them anything because then Democrats and Republicans will just fight over the other 90% and ignore that 10%. 2 - 3 Green party senators and they could tip the balance in the government. Even holding 10 - 15% of the support in a battle ground state would mean more than 10 - 15% nationally.

I'm for also making sure that the new morphing of Affirmative Action (AA) establishishes and maintains some quality of individual understanding and support. All too often we want to make sure we have representation without honestly looking at ALL of the qualities that come with the hire! I'm not looking to see AA dismantled, but I do think standards need to be incorporated. We also need to be honest about abilities based on the educational diffencies. You just can't drop out of grade school and without mental reconnection to the learning process, expect the most for your efforts alone. You just can't claim, "I'm tryin' as hard as I can." And let's be clear about the other side of that coin too. It's not good to sport book sense alone as a banner of vetted support status.

@Ensayn: I am not at all surprised that you were ahead of most and on point in covering Cynthia McKinney's presidential bid. The lack of interest in her campaign among Black folks is not surprising.

@Kriss: Your viewpoint(s) are pretty much the normal "American" perspective on the dominance of 2-party politics, based on closemindedness, ignorance and lack of vision. Let me school you a little bit on the wider world.

In most parliamentary and republican based democracies, there are more than 2 political parties (each representing the same interests and looking to maintain the status quo as in USA), dominating the political landscape. Look at Europe, Africa, Asia, Central and South America (and even Israel), and you will see that in most countries where they have some sort of representative form of government, it is usually made up of multi-party coalitions. True in some countries, one party may dominate through force and/or corruption, but there are multi-party or individual centred political movements that offer a challenge to the political status quo. The primary strength and weakness of these multi-party systems is that they bring a variety of interests and voices into the political arena, which can either force a government to be accountable to balancing the needs of a variety of constituents to stay in power; or can lead to continuous instabilty which results in numerous government changes, i.e., Italy and Greece; or can lead to violent conflicts as in Kenya and Zimbabwe.

A little closer to home. I live in Canada. We have 4 main national political parties. The 2 main political parties here that have dominated government are the Liberal Party and the Conservative Party. The primary reason we have national health care, a national pension plan, national employment insurance and other national (and provincial) based social safety programmes is not because of these 2 parties that have dominated national party politics in this country. It is because of a third party, the New Democratic Party and it's founder, Tommy Douglas. You can "google" them to get a more indepth history but I will share a couple of facts. The NDP has never formed the national government. They have never even been apart of a national coalition government. They usually receive about 10%-15% of the vote during a national election. However, with this 10%-15% support, they have been very influential in forcing Liberal and Conservative governments to enact policies to the benefit of ordinary Canadians.

Now comes the issue of vision. If McKinney and the Green Party, or Ralph Nader for that matter, were able to garner at least 5% of the vote that they are seeking, and with this a significant amount of support from the African-American community (which could increase the number beyond 5%), do you not think that the interests of those in the Black community, as well as other ordinary people, would have a better chance of being addressed than through Obama and the Democrats or McCain and the Republicans!?

Finally, in regards to grassroots movements.... they are the other side of the same coin. National attention with grassroots involvement is vital! McKinney and the Green Party, from what I have read from their website (have you read their website?), understand this and have well developed programmes, policies and initiatives to address this. In fact they discuss the importance of community involvement and being active in local governments, as the foundation of their party and movement.

The stranglehold the 2 main political parties have in the USA is not based on coercion or even propaganda... as much as it is based on the majority of people... like you... surrendering their essence and intelligence to being satisfied with consuming <em>"bread"</em>, being entertained by <em>"circuses"</em> and being hypnotised by a <em><strong>"black"</strong></em> faced minstrel.

Finally, in regards to grassroots movements…. they are the other side of the same coin.

The stranglehold the 2 main political parties have in the USA is not based on coercion or even propaganda… as much as it is based on the majority of people… like you… surrendering their essence and intelligence to being satisfied with consuming “bread”, being entertained by “circuses” and being hypnotised by a “black” faced minstrel.

Ensayn,
That's the thing about Obama running that most people overlook. It's really not about him, but the grassroots operation that he's started. I'm not foolish enough to think that Obama himself is going to make drastic changes. He's trying to be President and for the most part the President can't do that. But what he has done is energize the disenfranchised. Those millions of energized voters that are no longer apathetic and are now involved in politics. That's what the "change" is. Those politicians in Congress will feel pressure not from Obama...but his millions of supporters. Why? Because they need his voters to stay in office. It's leverage and right now the Green Party doesn't have it.

Obama got his exposure by playing the game on the inside. The Green party doesn't want to do that (I can respect that) but they don't have the exposure or leverage yet. So how do they get it? Imagine if the Green party took that 5% idea and focused it on a few battleground states. Ohio, Florida or Michigan. What if they took over the local government. Do you know how much power they would have then? Then they would have the exposure and power. Running for President just has them listed as an "also ran" and doesn't bring their cause to the spot light like they want.

Great post, I agree with people needing to step outside the box in order to understand what the issues are and who really addresses people in this country's needs. I hope you don't mind that I will be linking to this post on my blog.

I was writing a comment to address the misguided arguments of interracialpower, Philly and to a lesser extent Jonolan. It was starting to get wordy and I was considering doing a post.

However, the last comment by <strong>theblacksentinel</strong> articulated all I was going to say and much more to the point than I would have!! Nice jab, uppercut and body blow Sentinel! lol!!

Allow me though to add these words of Thomas Paine:

<em><strong>"Blind men cannot see and ignorant men will not see."</strong></em>

@Kriss, I do agree wth and Freeslave that the green party should build, the grassroots running on local levels creating a base. However, as you say here "If by some miracle McKinney was to win, what would she do then? Congress is full of the same Democrats and Republicans that she’s trying to change from." Well the same applies to Sen Obama saying he is free from corporated lobbies, yet the vast majority of the congress and senate are bought off by the lobbies. So how then can he make the so called change he is running on? As far as changing something from within has never worked. Change has always come from the people on the outside, working the system not being part of the system screaming change.

Kalagenesis:The only true reason affirmative action was created to to give blacks a false sense of hope and whites a false sense of superiority.Whites live in every corner of America while we blacks only occupy about 10 states in any large number. So if Vermont who has the fewest Blacks, how will they be obligated to diversify? They cant it is all a farce. The problem is certain whites have a lock on all the best this country has to offer. The"ugly white man"is the one who never benefits from his skin color the way he thinks he should. It is this underachiever who blames minorities for his shortcomings, and I believe affirmative action only aids and abets this belief system.
