About asabagna
I go by the name of Asabagna Alatentou, "Asa" for short. I took this name as my African/Spiritual name when I went on a pilgrimage to West Africa in 1997. I visited Senegal, The Gambia and Ghana. "Asabagna" means "hunter" and I received that name during a naming ceremony when I visited a village in northern Ghana. "Alatentou" is Mandingo for "God is gracious" and I received that name from a village Griot in Senegal. I was born in England and my parents are of Jamaican heritage. I spent most of my formative years in Jamaica, but grew up primarily in Toronto Canada. I currently live in Ottawa, the national capital of Canada. I am professionally employed, married, 2 wonderful kids and regularly attend a Pentecostal church. I am a born-again Christian. I do not consider myself conservative or liberal, right-wing or left-wing, centrist etc., or any of the multiple categories that society likes to confine and define people by. However, I do have strong views, beliefs and opinions but I also consider myself open to listening and contemplating other viewpoints. I am a firm believer that "if you don't believe in something, you will fall for anything".

I am sitting in a car waiting for my Friend to collect stuff from a shop, a Police pulls off and asks me to move the car,he comes out and starts to bully me, I look at him quietly, when my Welsh white Friend comes back, she shouts at the Police officer in New Barnet (North London) as she knows that the area is racist, the Police walks away with no words knowing he was caught!
In June 2008, I used for the first time my British Passport to travel to Belgium, UK Border agency at Eurostar checked the computer,and started asking me questions saying that there was something serious on their system about my identity!I was held for minutes until my passport was returned.Raising the complaint with the Head of UK Border agency at Brussels was just a joke as she gave me all sort of excuses but never getting down to the bottom of why I was being stopped, she sounded confident,and I thought that maybe she enjoyed working the Racist Belgians who divided my Country Burundi and Rwanda,and exploited Congo!
When I started being racially bullied in New Barnet,
when I moved there in November 2000, I started doing a
background on the area to understand the attitude of Racism of some of the Residents.
I had a Social Worker who spoke with Barnet Council, and the Barnet Council Officer said that she was concerned about me as Residents were
making all sorts of allegations, but as she knew that some of the Residents had been moved by the Police prior to
moving there, she had said that she filed the complaints into the bin.
The second time I was picked up in New Barnet in 2004,
as Police took me to the car, I shouted at the Residents
“Racist”! I was soon handcuffed.
If I was to sue for damages, I would be more attacked
by the same individuals.
I will never forget how my GP Dr Patni at East Barnet
Health Centre was saying that wherever I go for a Job, he
will need to tell them that I was in Hospital!
Those who supported that I should be hospitalised,
they were politically motivated.
Whenever I called the Police to report racial attacks,
they replied:”10,Hertford road?” and just put the
phone down, this was way before 2002.But as soon Residents gathered together to pick up the phone to call the Police for all sort of lies, I would see Police cars in front of my cars, to me, I saw the Police and Residents as one Big Thug and Gang Group.
When I raised the issue with my Barnet MP, Barnet Police Commander was told by officers that
no complaint was ever raised.
Residents of New Barnet, Hertford road, finally made
it in their vicious plans after threatning me by Phone, I
lost my House in December 2007.I dropped the complaint to take it to court as a Citizen advice Bureau of New Barnet
said to me that my case will only depend on the mood of the Judge if I should win or not, this to me was a clear sign of the complicity of some.
Some of the Honest Residents of New Barnet told me
that they beleived me as they know well how some are very racist.
As I had come to the UK from Burundi, it was just
convenient to suggest that I suffer from Post Traumatic
stress disorder, to justify all their actions in secret!
I realized that no matter how many Laws exist, the
Race and Equality Committee, it is simply pointless to try
to raise the issues hoping to win in Court.
New Barnet is an area where I saw some Residents
express their hate for Jews when a new Jewish school had
just been approved to be built just 5Minutes away from my
house, I saw Elderly saluting “High Hitler”, I saw
on People’s doors “Hitler signs”, I heard
Residents on the streets bullying Black Africans “to go
back to their Country”, the Police did nothing and just
walked on, while others were laughing.An amazing Zimbabwean
Church Pastor who volunteered by providing IT Training to
People released from Prison, told me that her shop was burnt and they stole everything.A Congolese neighbor told me how they broke his car among all other cars parked.
What I experienced in my community discouraged me to
challenge how I was being racially bullied at work and
College as I knew that I would never win.
I am grateful for few Residents of Barnet who supported me emotionally during all the 7Years I lived there.
No matter how I tried to integrate, I was constantly
reminded that I am an African and Black, no wonder why I
turned into an Activist.
Few Days ago, Aljazeera showed a Documentary that shows how there is growing attacks on Black Africans in Russia, the Neo-Nazi groups call the Black Africans “Monkeys”, they recruit Young Russians to prepare them psychologically to hate Black Africans and those who hate Russia, they insist that if Black Africans don’t return Home, they will use force.It reminded a Cousin of mine who was found two Years ago in a river in Russia, he was there on a university scholarship.It amazes me that no African Leader has challenged Russia over the death of its citizens in Russia!No African Leader has had the guts to boycott Russia from trading with Africa!
If God exists, he will give me justice one Day!
