This is a repost. Btw… I’m home with today from work with a sore throat… who knew… [;o)
Every four years the world becomes captivated by the most anticipated and exciting international sporting event. No it’s not the Summer or Winter Olympics. It’s World Cup Football! Next year, starting on 11th June, the competition kicks off (literally) in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The final game to crown the world champion will be a month later on July 11th. I am already planning (scheming) how I will take time off from work to watch as many matches as possible. I can already feel a sore throat coming on (wink).
It’s always difficult for me to choose a favourite because I like so many teams. Brazil, Nigeria, Argentina, France, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Netherlands, Germany, Portugal, Paraguay, Mexico, Cameroon and South Africa are the teams I will be cheering for (lol), which is almost half of the teams playing!
It will be an amazing competition. Goooaaal!

Asa I wholeheartedly agree. The world cup is truly a world championship. They played a few preliminary matches here in in Atlanta and it shocked the tourism board as to how many people came out. I am shocked that the tourism board of Atlanta would be shocked since we have a HUGE Caribbean population, a very large Brazilian population not to mention the “hispanic” (I always choke on that word) community and the many countries representing Africa here.
I think I’m getting that sore throat too…LOL
What happened to the Soca Warriors and the Reggae Boys this go round?

I know Bruh! I am disappointed that I won’t have a chance to cheer them on this time ’round.
Brazil, baby, all the way!! They invented the beautiful game, non?!
FreeSlave, thats exactly who I will be pulling for, Brazil!!
Its on baby!
I’m not even a diehard soccer fan. But, being a career teacher where soccer rules, i.e. the independent school culture, I can’t help but get just a bit excited. Planning to watch the game in about two hours between the US and England.
It should be an exciting match!
I gotta give props to the USA World Cup team for coming back from 2 down and “beating” Slovenia! That 3rd goal should have counted! I am starting to develop some respect for the USA team!
U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A!!! 😀
I didn’t see the game, but I heard bits and pieces on the news. I thought they looked weak against England in the beginning of the match. But, as they played on the seemed to gain some confidence. Sadly I missed Ghana. I will be glued to the TV tomorrow though.
But, really, how did Austrailia get in????
