About asabagna
I go by the name of Asabagna Alatentou, "Asa" for short. I took this name as my African/Spiritual name when I went on a pilgrimage to West Africa in 1997. I visited Senegal, The Gambia and Ghana. "Asabagna" means "hunter" and I received that name during a naming ceremony when I visited a village in northern Ghana. "Alatentou" is Mandingo for "God is gracious" and I received that name from a village Griot in Senegal. I was born in England and my parents are of Jamaican heritage. I spent most of my formative years in Jamaica, but grew up primarily in Toronto Canada. I currently live in Ottawa, the national capital of Canada. I am professionally employed, married, 2 wonderful kids and regularly attend a Pentecostal church. I am a born-again Christian. I do not consider myself conservative or liberal, right-wing or left-wing, centrist etc., or any of the multiple categories that society likes to confine and define people by. However, I do have strong views, beliefs and opinions but I also consider myself open to listening and contemplating other viewpoints. I am a firm believer that "if you don't believe in something, you will fall for anything".
All I knew about futbol was that Brazil always won!! But all the joy and excitement, fantastic happy vibes coming straight from South Africa, so many happy and excited black faces is a joy to behold.
Now Nigeria is playing, my husband abruptly woke me up to watch! And watching Argentina–it’s all threatning to truly draw me in and capture me–that I would become one of those mad vuvuzela blowing futbol/soccer fans!! I don’t have a vuvuzela, though!
Now I just need help learning what Im watching in terms of moves, rules, etc.
Those Argentines are something though!!
My hubby was a bit upset that they scored on Nigeria in less than six minutes into the game!!
Next, America vs England!!! 😀
I was hoping that Nigeria would give Argentina more of a challenge, but I am not surprised that Argentina dominated them. Nigeria did well to only surrender 1 goal though!
USA and England should be an exciting match. I expect England to win, but anything could happen… that’s why it’s so captivating to watch!
Ok Asa, what so you think about that goal given up by the U.K.? I couldn’t figure out if the goalie really muffed the strike or did he let the ball go in for television drama.
@ EnSayn:
The UK goalie made a bad play on the ball. As usual, in any sport, if you take your eye off the ball, you won’t secure it properly.
I must give the US team credit though. They played a spirited game and pressed forward alot. They got lucky with the goal but you create opportunities for luck to happen. That’s why when you can, shoot at the net, you never know what may happen. If you don’t shoot, you don’t score!
Looking forward to Ghana vs. Serbia!
Go Ghana!!!!
I agree, I couldn’t say it was really luck. I think the goalie just muffed it, took is eye off as you said. Me too on the Ghana match.
Yea Ghana!! I missed the game though! Going to try to find repeat of it somewhere.
