“Brother, to me, there are no Muslims in this world presently except Darfuris. Since the Arab-backed illegitimate regime under Omar Bashir started butchering my people, all we mistook to be Muslims, especially Arabs, became infidels (kaffirs) for not acting.”
These are the sarcastic words by Salih Fur whom I met on plane on my way to Winnipeg from St. John’s early this year. He goes on: “I came to Canada from Egypt where I was called ‘slaves’ and other bad names, simply because I am black.”
Salih was on his way to Toronto and we coincidentally shared a seat. He sadly told me: “Can you believe? Sudan still has black people who regard themselves to be Arabs and discriminate against fellow Africans!” His cry is clear. Muslims, the world over, have betrayed their colleagues in Darfur. This betrayal, according to Salih, has rendered them kaffirs.
I wanted to know further why this was his take. He has good Quran-based reasons. He told me that his people goofed thanks to being referred to as “Ahal Quran” or “the people of book” by Bashir. Little did they know it was a ploy he used to fool them as they refrained from pursuing modern education! They heavily regret his lie.
Salih seems to be good at this holy book of Muslims thanks to verses he gave me. When I arrived home, I touched base with another friend from Darfur, a Mr. Etahir. This guy -I met also in Canada-, hates everything Islamic and Arabic. He was born and raised a true Muslim till 2005, when he survived beatings in Cairo simply because he was black, and thus, slave, as per Arab take of black people. Therefore, was not supposed to attend prayers. Infuriated and badly injured at heart, he kissed Islam good-bye.
[49:11] O you who believe, no people shall ridicule other people, for they may be better than they. Nor shall any women ridicule other women, for they may be better than they. Nor shall you mock one another, or make fun of your names. Evil indeed is the reversion to wickedness after attaining faith. Anyone who does not repent after this, these are the transgressors.
James, a Darfur Christian convert, too was born and raised Muslim. But when Arab-sponsored Janjaweed started killing his people as they uttered “Allah Akbar!” (God is great), he reverted to Christianity. There are many such incidents reminiscent to Darfur people.
Going back to Salih, he gave me some verses from the Quran to justify why he has lost faith in all beliefs, in all Muslims, except his Darfur people. Before delving into the whole fiasco and betrayal as per Salih, I must admit, this is not my take though.
Now let us face it. As per Islamic tenets, all Muslims are brothers and are connected like cogs on the wheel. If this is so, (and indeed it is), it is ordered that when one Muslim is offended, all Muslims should come to his aid.
[49:9] If two groups of believers fought with each other, you shall reconcile them. If one group aggresses against the other, you shall fight the aggressing group until they submit to GOD’s command. Once they submit, you shall reconcile the two groups equitably. You shall maintain justice; GOD loves those who are just.
Why didn’t this happen to Darfur? One thing makes one an infidel: going contrary to Islamic teachings and Quranic-and-Allah’s commandments. [49:1] O you who believe, do not place your opinion above that of GOD and His messenger. You shall reverence GOD. GOD is Hearer, Omniscient.
Why did the Arab League become the first Islamic outfit to vehemently support Bashir, the African that calls himself an Arab, after he is water-tightly implicated by the ICC? Where is the Organization for Islamic countries? Why are Arab countries openly supporting genocide of Muslims by inviting Bashir to their countries and being his lifeline financially? Where were African Muslims that are renowned for taking to the streets when Arab Muslims are touched?
Refer to many demonstrations when US attacked Iraq and Afghanistan not to mention the support for Hezbollah when Israel pounded on its stronghold in Lebanon. We don’t see them doing the same for Somalia or Darfur! Isn’t this self-discrimination as seen in Sudan where African tribes like Al-Shygya, Al-Jalya and Misriya discriminate colleagues? Why did Africans not support their colleagues in the first place? Doesn’t this put them in the same bag as other Arab infidels, to loan words from Salih, that turned their backs to those supposed to be their brothers and sisters in faith? How could they remain Muslims whilst their hands are full of Darfur’s blood?
Interestingly, although the West is always accused of being anti-Islam by Islamic fundamentalists, what it is doing in Darfur proves otherwise. The West is assisting the Darfur refugees whilst Arab countries shy away, exploit and torture them. Refer to Cairo killings and beatings of Sudanese refugees when they took to the streets to make their case, so as for some to be housed by Israel. They reached this stage after being discriminated against, killed, exploited and insulted by Egyptians simply because they’re black. As usual, Arab and so-called Muslim states failed to condemn this brutality!
Let’s face it. Arabs north of Sahara (Maghreb) call themselves Africans under AU or whenever there’s anything of benefit for them under African preference. This happened in 1991 when an Egyptian, Dr. Boutros Boutros-Ghali, was appointed UN General Secretary on Africa’s ticket. However, Egyptians abuse and hate to be referred to as Africans. And to prove Arab’s indifference and disregard of Africans, the same “African” did not take any action during the Rwanda genocide. To Egyptians and other Arabs, every black person is a slave. Remember these people calling blacks “slaves” are the same people whose ancestors sold Africans to slavery. Therefore, slavery still exists in their mindset. That’s why redressing Africa for miseries slavery caused is sine quo non shall we want to deter such barbarism.
[49:13] O people, we created you from the same male and female, and rendered you distinct peoples and tribes that you may recognize one another. The best among you in the sight of GOD is the most righteous. GOD is Omniscient, Cognizant.
Surat al Hujurat or walls put more emphasis on brotherhood and equality for Muslims. It insists on reconciliation especially during conflicts like the one we’re evidencing in Darfur in which Muslims all over the world have shied away. Hereunder are more verses about the same.
[49:10] The believers are members of one family; you shall keep the peace within your family and reverence GOD, that you may attain mercy.
[49:14] The Arabs said, “We are Mu’mens (believers).” Say, “You have not believed; what you should say is, `We are Muslims (submitters),’ until belief is established in your hearts.” If you obey GOD and His messenger, He will not put any of your works to waste. God is Forgiver, Most Merciful.
[49:15] Mu’mens (believers) are those who believe in GOD and His messenger, then attain attain the status of having no doubt whatsoever, and strive with their money and their lives in the cause of GOD. These are the truthful ones.
Having mused upon above verses, is it unfair for Darfuris to regard other Muslims the world over as kaffirs for betraying them?

Ana, you have to get your facts straight! In fact, your comments seem quite hateful. One would be foolish to think that Christianity was not spread the in worse ways then Islam was. Have we forgotten the Transatlantic Slave Trade. Africa continues to be exploited by America/Europeans under the umbrella of Christianity. As an African-American Muslim, I am disgusted with my Muslim brothers who are led by ignorance. We must separate Islam from Muslims. There is nothing wrong with Islam, just how its interpreted. I can say that there are horrible Christians in America, and yes they are but I will never blame Christianity.
You know many Afro-Arabs have a serious identity complex, they think they Arab. While they may have Arab blood their physical traits do no resemble what we think of as Arab. Now Africans/ African Americans have the same problem. In fact, any race of people that has been enslaved by another has that problem. Look Black and African women perming their hair? African women bleaching there skin? You cannot just say this a North African problem! There are blacks all throughout South and Central America who are beaten and discriminated against, and they claim Christianity and are good ole Christian god fearing people. We African-Americans have the same complex. We men prefer light skin girls. Some African-American women would have a child with a guy if the feel is hair texture would not be nappy.
You mentioned that Ethiopians and Armenians were the first Christians. Well here is something interesting:

This is Aramaic not Arabic and we see that Allah was the originator of creation. He was mentioned since the very beginning of scripture. Allah has also declared himself in Isaiah 46:9 that he is Allah and there is no one else.
We can go further into the religion of Jesus (May peace be with him) and closely examine his teachings because they very much coincide with Islam. A Muslim will never argue against these beautiful lessons and as a Muslim, I have no troublr admitting that I follow thses teachings from the New Testament Mark 12:29, ” And Jesus answered him, The first of all commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord Allah, The Lord is one.”
With that being said, I have always believe that people seeking religion are seeking truth. So, before you go off the wall with your comments, seriously compare and contrast religious text before sounding so simple.

As a Christian, I agree with you wholeheartedly with your sentiments here.
During my pilgrimmage to West Africa, I visited slave castles in Ghana, and saw with my own eyes where Europeans had built their churchs right over the pits where they kept rebellious Africans who refused to be slaves, and starved them to death as an example to the other captives. I remember thinking to myself at the time that here were so-called Christians, who sang hymns, prayed to God and preached about the love of Christ, while they had other human beings right under their feet starving to death!
Some may say that was then, but it’s not like that now, while the practitioners of Islam today are the ones still practising slavery and violence in Africa. There are also groups like the Lords Resistance Army in northern Uganda, led by the self-proclaimed Prophet of God, Joseph Kony, who claims to communicate with the Holy Spirit, that are fighting to establish a theocratic state based on the tenets of the ten commandments. The LRA engage in the abduction of children for their army, murder, mutilation and the sexual enslavement of women and girls… all in the name of the Christian God.

I agree with all of you up to some point. The point with the Sudanese is that many of the mixed Sudanese identify with the Arabs.
This is very similar with many of us Blacks in the west who in some way or the other identify with the western world.
Yes we share language , culture and even bloodline with many Westeners and I have no problem with that.
I do not have a problem with identification. My problem is with those who are causing harm and damage to others.
Jihad was issued against the people of south Sudan, Darfur and the many black tribes that practice Islam in Sudan.
You see many black Africans still cling to their tribal unislamic ways and the so called Islamic police are having a fit.There is an agenda to make Sudan Islamic by any means necessary.

Christ’s message stirred among Romans until Emperor Constantine declared Cristianity official religion and we know how inmoral the Romans were.

Materialistic and atheistic Europeans were not the best people to teach Christ’s belief.
This faith or belief system then came to the Americas with the Europeans and we all know the story of the Atlantic Slave Trade and at the same time, Europeans finding passages in the Bible to justify slavery.
Every one of those Africans above those slave ships knew the Creator.
Every indigenous person in the Americas knew God.
They may not have known about Jesus and the redemptive message but they knew God.
God has no other busisness to do but to shift his gospel to elsewhere whenever He encounters foolishness.

You like to recommend books for others to read. Let me recommend one for you: The Bible. Start at Genesis and follow through to Revelations. As you read, ask God to open your “spiritual eyes” to see the truth… not just your truth. Ask God to open your “spiritual mind” to accept the truth… not just our obstinate narrow-minded version of the truth. And finally but more importantly, to soften your “spiritual heart” so you can gain wisdom so as to truly understand what it means to “judge not”.

Bro Nkwazi seems to be very knowdgeable of religious teachings, Islam in particular. Like the bible, the holy Quraan is rich of teachings about equality, brotherhood and unity. Slavery is against Islamic teachings as much as it is unbiblical. Whoever believes in discrimination does not belong to Islam neither is he a Christian.
The general conclusion that Islam is not suitable for the blacks merely because there is discrimination in Sudan is based on a wrong and misconceived premises. The assertion would have been valid had the Quraan tought about discrimination. In the same token it is not proper to question the correctness of Christianity merely because there are some priests in Europe who favour sodomy.
Nkwazi is right in my opinion in disassociating the immoral conduct of the so called muslims with Islam
I, in the first place, appreciate the way bro Nkwazi has been very analytical and fair in his discourse. I entirely share view with him that all what most Arabs do are agaisnt the Quranic teaching. This has not started today. You remember during slave trade Africans were enslaved for fabricated reason that they were anfidels.
You may also remember how the so called European christians misused the biblical story about Nour to justify enslavement of the black people by Europeans. The story was used to classified Africans rooted from HAM as the slaves of Eurepeans (JAPHET) and Asians (SHAM). It was strongly contended that the enslavement of the Africans by Europeans and Asians was in fulfilment of the wishes of God.
